First
Time to a Convention?
Washington State
is very excited to be hosting the
61st National Square Dance Convention® in 2012.
The Convention will
be held at the beautiful
Spokane Convention Center
334 W. Spokane Falls Blvd., Spokane, WA 99201
You
will have a wonderful time in Spokane in 2012.
We have so much planned for you, our new square dance friends.
There will be dancing
from 10:00 am to 10:00 pm on over ten
(10) dance floors. There will be Mainstream, Plus, A-1, A-2, Challenge,
Youth, Contra, Clogging, and Handicapable dance floors. The Round Dance
teaches during the day will be Phase 2 - 6. Round dancers will have
their
own dance halls and they will be able to round dance between tips in
the
Square Dance Halls. Country Western couple dancing & line dancing
is
also scheduled. There are Education sessions that will give you
an 'intro'
to the various levels of square and round dancing. And ... there will
be a
live band to dance to in the Mainstream Dance Hall every
night.
In addition to all
the dancing available, there will be Education sessions
that you can learn from. The subjects will be mostly about square
dancing ... but not all of them. We will also have a sewing seminar
that
will teach you different things for square dancers interested in
sewing ... that also includes several "make and take" classes.
There
is so much going on in those four days.
You can even work
in some shopping in downtown Spokane while you're
here. However, if you'd like to look for new square dance clothes there
will be
over 90 square dance shops to entice you in the Convention Vendor
area.
There will be a
3-day tour to Glacier Park National prior to the
Convention, and an Alaskan cruise following it. In addition there are
many half-day tours scheduled in and around the Spokane area to add
to your enjoyment and memories of Spokane in 2012.
The 61st National
Square Dance Convention® has seven hotels
within 1/2 mile from the Convention Center. We also have an additional
seven hotels under contract, and are arranging for transportation to
deliver
dancers to the Convention Center (a bus pass will be available for purchase).
Camping will also be available. More information will
be posted in the future.
There is a square
dance publication that you can subscribe to which is
devoted to the upcoming Conventions. It's called "National Squares"
and you can go to nsdcnec.com
to get more information on it.
We
look forward to seeing you in Spokane!!
